If you’re looking to climb Mount Kenya fast, Naro Moru is the best route to take.
The Mount Kenya Naro Moru route is one of the most popular routes for mountain climbing enthusiasts. This route approaches the mountain from the West and offers diverse hiking trails. You can expect to pass through forest, bamboo, and moorland vegetation as you make your way through steep trails and rocky paths.
Although not as scenic as the Chogoria or Sirimon route, Naro Moru makes up for this with challenging trails and notorious landscapes. Climbing Mount Kenya through this route will see you go through the treacherous Vertical bog and into the Teleki Valley.
One advantage of climbing Mount Kenya through the Naro Moru route is the huts and cabins along the way. Every pre-defined campsite along the routes is a hut which negates the need for camp tents. However, you can choose to bring one along if you want to.
Another advantage of using Mount Kenya Naro Moru route is its wildlife. You’re more likely to view megafauna on this route than you are with Chogoria or Sirimon route. You may see Monkeys, bushbucks, Buffalos, and sometimes elephants while hiking through the bamboo forest. The route
Most people who choose to take on this route usually do it in four days. However, it is highly recommended to add an extra day to your adventure so you can better acclimatize to the altitude. Since Mount Kenya Naro Moru is only 40 km, you may find yourself rising in altitude faster than your body can adapt.
You can also choose to climb Mount Kenya via Naro Moru and descend via another route for a more holistic hiking experience. Chogoria and Sirimon are both viable options. You can choose the Chogoria route if you’re looking for a relatively challenging descent. Or you can go for the Sirimon route if you want a gentle descent filled with magnificent sights.
