4-day Mount Kenya Hike Via Sirimon Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi – Sirimon Park Gate - Judmier Camp 9Km

The adventure begins with us picking you up in Nairobi and taking a drive to Nanyuki town. This drive will take approximately 4 hours thus giving you enough time to view Kenya’s diverse landscape. We’ll have lunch in Nanyuki town and then head to Sirimon Park gate to commence our Mount Kenya hike.

We start climbing Mount Kenya by trekking through the forest. Once the forest becomes heathland, our track veers right to our first campsite. The first leg of our hike will take around 4 hours. After reaching Old Moses camp, we’ll have dinner and spend our first night on Mount Kenya.

Trekking Mount Kenya on this day will take us 680m closer to the peak.

Day 2: Judmier Camp – Shipton Camp

After breakfast, we continue climbing Mount Kenya to Mackinder’s Valley. This is an interesting day filled with some of the best sights Mount Kenya Sirimon route has to offer. However, the trail will get demanding as we make our way through steep and rocky terrain.

We branch left at the Junction and continue to climb Mount Kenya for about an hour. The trail brings us to Ontulili River where we can rest for a bit and refill our water bottles. We continue hiking Mount Kenya through the Moorlands and Liki North. The journey finally brings us to Mackinder’s Valley.

The views from Mackinder’s Valley are spectacular. You’ll be able to see the peaks ahead and the vast landscapes below.

We settle at Shipton camp for dinner and an early rest in preparation for the summit.

Day 3: Shipton Camp – Point Lenana– Judmier Camp (Old Moses Camp), 21km

This day will see us climbing Mount Kenya Point Lenana to catch the African sunrise at the peak. So, the day will begin at 3 AM.

After breakfast, we’ll make our way through a rocky path that leads to Pt. Lenana. Since we’ll be trekking in the dark for some time, hand torches will be required. This part of our Mount Kenya hike will take around 3 hours.

At 6:30 am, we’ll make it to the peak and watch the sunrise atop the highest mountain in Kenya. The rising sun at this altitude is awe-striking; watching the golden rays bathe the mountain and the vast landscape below is something else.

Our descent begins after some time on the peak. We’ll continue hiking Mount Kenya with the path we took until we’re back at Shipton camp. After breakfast at camp, we’ll head back to the trail and keep trekking Mount Kenya towards Old Moses camp. This is where we’ll have dinner and stay overnight.
