The transcendental Maasai Mara is famous for its diverse African wildlife, vibrant local culture, and fun-filled activities. Here, nature and human culture co-exist giving way to a fascinating way of life. The dense concentration of lions, vast herds of wildebeests, and unique bird species make a Maasai Mara safari hard to beat.
A 3-day Maasai Mara safari gives you ample time to experience the best of what this park has to offer. Expect to encounter the most majestic African wildlife species; from lions, zebras, elephants, and giraffes to lesser-known species like African wild dogs, servals, and aardwolves. Birdwatchers are also sure to have a field day in Masai Mara as the park is teeming with numerous beautiful bird species.
Our adventure begins with pickup from Nairobi and driving to Maasai Mara National Park. The 4-hour drive gives you time to enjoy some of Kenya’s varied landscapes. Along the way, we pass the Great Lift Valley escarpment that separates the tropical lands and the semi-arid savanna landscapes.
We reach the park's gate, get clearance, and have lunch before starting our Maasai Mara safari. In the afternoon, we go for a game drive through the park trying to clear our Big 5 bucket list. The Big 5 include lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos, and African buffalo.
We head back to camp later in the evening for dinner and an overnight stay. You have the option to stay in a camp sleeping to the sounds of nature or stay in a spacious and superb lodge.
On this day, we start the Masai Mara safari early as the sun rises. Dawn and dusk are the perfect time for game drives because that’s when most animals go hunting. We continue with the game drive seeking to find lions in the midst of a hunt as the air fills with the sound of singing birds.
After the game drive, you have the option of going on a Maasai Mara hot air balloon tour, visiting the Maasai village, or splashing in a swimming pool at the hotel. The hot air balloon offers a whole new way of experiencing the Maasai Mara. On the other hand, a trip to the Maasai village gives you an opportunity to experience the Maasai culture and witness their way of life alongside Africa’s wildest animals.
We return to camp later in the day for dinner and an overnight stay.
We wake up early for a full English breakfast and depart from the park at 8:30 a.m. At this point, you can choose to visit the Maasai village on our way out or continue with the tour to another destination. We’ll pass by Narok town where we can go shopping and get more artifacts.
Our adventure ends in Nairobi late afternoon.
