Mt Kenya Trekking Expeditions believes tourism should create meaningful benefits for local communities while respecting the rights, dignity, culture, and wellbeing of the people and places we visit.
1. Respect for Local Communities
Guests, staff, guides, and partners are expected to treat local residents and communities with respect, courtesy, and dignity.We discourage behaviour that is discriminatory, exploitative, abusive, threatening, or disrespectful.
2. Local Employment and Suppliers
Where practical and appropriate, we seek to support local employment and businesses through the use of local guides, porters, cooks, drivers, accommodation providers, suppliers, and other service providers.3. Fair Treatment
We aim to promote fair and respectful working relationships with people involved in delivering our services.We do not support forced labour, exploitation, human trafficking, or abusive treatment.
4. Respect for Culture
Guests are encouraged to learn about and respect local customs, traditions, beliefs, dress practices, and community norms.Photography, filming, interviews, or other forms of recording involving local residents should be undertaken respectfully and with appropriate permission.
5. Children and Vulnerable Persons
Mt Kenya Trekking Expeditions does not tolerate the exploitation, abuse, neglect, or inappropriate treatment of children or vulnerable persons.Guests and staff must act responsibly around children and must not engage in inappropriate interactions, relationships, photography, or exchanges that could place a child at risk.
Our approach is guided by the principles of child protection recognized under Kenya's Children Act, 2022.
6. Community Benefits
Where practical, we support tourism activities that allow local communities to benefit from visitor spending while maintaining respect for local culture and the environment.7. Responsible Giving
Guests wishing to support local communities are encouraged to consider responsible forms of assistance that respect community dignity and local needs.Direct distribution of money, sweets, gifts, or other items to children may create unintended consequences and is discouraged where it could encourage dependency or unsafe interactions.
